What About Bob? (1991)

Bob is a neurotic man living in NYC who’s afraid to leave his home. He works in his apartment (ahead of its time) and orders everything. After a series of failed relationships with several therapists, Bob is passed off to Dr. Leo Marvin, a highly successful psychotherapist and author of a new book and method called “Baby Steps.” Bob thinks he's found the one to cure him and follows him and his family to Lake Winnipesaukee, NH where they're vacationing for the summer. As Bob bonds with Leo's family and works his way towards resolving his issues, Leo begins to unravel.

The good:

  • Hilarious, funny with humor ranging from dry to wacky.

  • Outstanding cast with wonderful comedic performances, especially from Murray and Dreyfuss.

  • Beautiful scenic location (actually filmed in Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia).

  • Feel good movie with a twinge of darkness

The bad:

  • The final showdown between Bob and Leo is a little over the top.

  • **** 1/2 (out of five)
